Several weeks ago in London, editing began on EYESHOT, my debut novel.
To catch up: earlier in 2014, I signed a publishing contract with Joffe Books – a prestige imprint of Not So Noble Books – headed by well-known contemporary artist Jasper Joffe. It’s an exciting collaboration and I’m privileged to be working with such talented and influential people while reaching readers in both the US and UK markets.
I spent three years writing and rewriting EYESHOT. I learned a lot. I had to learn some things twice. The ending changed. The beginning changed. Characters changed. Huge chunks of the story were repeatedly overhauled or scrapped altogether. If learning how to write a full-length novel is like learning to ride a bicycle, I totaled several bikes and injured at least one bystander. It’s hard work, and anyone who tells you otherwise is doing it wrong. Books aren’t written – they’re rewritten.
And I wouldn’t trade a single drop of (figurative) sweat. Every rewrite and setback purified EYESHOT and made it better, smarter, and harder-hitting. I’m proud of the book we’re releasing soon – and if you do me the kindness of downloading it, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for finding this page. Please find my author profile on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, and check back here soon. Moving forward, I will aim to strike a healthy balance between updates on EYESHOT and upcoming books, interviews with other authors, and good old-fashioned blogging.
Whatever the hell that is.
So excited for this book! This hard editing work will certainly pay off in the form of a perfect and tight novel. Keep us posted on the progress.
Is your book only an ebook or will I be able to purchase a hard or soft back? Look forward to reading when it comes out in paper.
Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately as of now, it’s exclusively an ebook – but if sales continue to be strong, a paperback run could definitely happen. Sorry I don’t have a better answer for you – and thank you for stopping by, linkbeltjoe!
Will your book be out in hard back or paper back? Not a fan of reading books on devices.
I was running low on books, so I grabbed some “free” books on Amazon. Eyeshot was one. Wow! I loved it. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole read. I kind of know this area because I live in Arizona. Its the same terrain. For some reason, it gave me the same nail biting feeling as when I watched “The Duel” by Steven Spielberg. After I finished the book, I immediately tried to get more books by Adams. So disappointed to find no more. Please get to writing more. You are now one of my favorite authors.
Wow, thank you, Pat! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And now I need to go rent “The Duel” because I just Googled it and it sounds AWESOME. So thank you for the movie recommendation as well as the kind words! I really appreciate your time and feedback.
